There was a cap on the alcohol content of beer at 5% ABV. Also homebrewing is illegal (though that provision is not really enforced...there are home brewing shops operating in the state.) I think the law just passed moves the cap to something more sensible...I don't know about the homebrewing restrictions, though...

CA 'beer' is limited to under 4.99% ABV.
thats why the better brews are labled as ale,stout,porter, malt liquor,ect.
no limits on those, as long the lable doesnt say 'beer'.
its stupid.
Stupid, but workable...no blue laws in Cali, either, as I recall, and you can buy real booze at grocery stores, etc. Just like AZ.
