the technical term is "going scarborough"

If Sarah Palin doesn't have a show on Fox News by the end of this year, I will eat my hat.

I really didn't want to blog about this, but I couldn't resist the opportunity to get on the record with this one.

In the context of an ambitious politician, her actions make little sense. But I think it is worth noting that between her state salary and her husband's salary, she is far from rich. Some commentaries has suggested that she has rung up about $500k in legal bills since the end of the 2008 election fending off apparently baseless ethics investigations. $500k is a lot of money for any middle-class couple, but she can probably pay off that debt in a couple days' work on the lecture circuit. So I *think* that she views resignation as a means to 1. curtail her legal issues and 2. cash is so that she doesn't have to worry about money anymore. Considering she is caring for a teenager, a down-syndrome baby, and most likely, a teen-age mom and her kid, monetary security would seem a pretty compelling motivation.

With that said, I just don't see how this can possibly *help* her political career.

Noting that I did not vote for her (in Alaska or for VP), I find myself fluctuating between relieved that she is no longer our gov and pissed off that she quit in mid stream to avoid becoming "a lame duck" in her words. She has basically confirmed all I dislike about her and her addiction to the drug of the cult of personality.

Dave--I agree. I'm actually willing to take her at her word for her stated reasons, mainly because it makes absolutely no sense in terms of political maneuvering.
