What do you think might happen to California's economy and tax base if a significant portion of its homosexual population migrated en mass to, say, Massachusetts? Particularly members of the creative class that could relatively easily do so, if they so desired? In San Francisco alone, the GLB population is estimated to be 15%. The fraction of the population in Los Angeles is much smaller, but still, we're talking about nearly half a million people.

I am a California voter and I voted in favor of Prop 8 not because I don't like gay people but because I don't want courts making social policy. Gay marriage is a political issue and the political branch of government (the legislature) should be making that decision. Not one of the 30 state voter initiatives regarding gay marriage have been designed to override or restrict a legislative effort to legalize gay marriage; they are designed to prevent the courts from forcing gay marriage on a public that clearly does not want it. I would not have a big problem with gay marriage if the people (either through an initiative or through their elected representatives) supported it but I am wholly opposed to such issues being imposed by the courts.

Dave--I can think of any number of policies you would not want put to vote.
