"With our nation at war and so many Americans serving on the front lines, our troops and their families deserve the certainty that can only come when an act of Congress ends this discriminatory policy once and for all. The House of Representatives has already passed the necessary legislation. Today I call on the Senate to act as soon as possible so I can sign this repeal into law this year and ensure that Americans who are willing to risk their lives for their country are treated fairly and equally. Our troops represent the virtues of selfless sacrifice and love of country that have enabled our freedoms. I am absolutely confident that they will adapt to this change and remain the best led, best trained, best equipped fighting force the world has ever known."

--President Obama

Wow. What a bunch of divisive, ideologically-driven partisan rhetoric, carefully crafted to whip his extremist, America-hating base into a frenzy...oh, right.

Nice to hear from the man I voted for every now and then.

the only issue i have with the whole debate is that those who are making the decisions are not serving in the forces, and wont have to deal with the potential combat/cohesion/discipline issues that may arise from either stance.

and there were the olden days of the 70's, where being gay could get you out of the draft.

The broad policies (i.e., not operational decisions) of the United States military are always set by people who are not in the military. That's what a civilian-controlled military means.

if you would call that a broad policy.
to me, its a personel decision best left up the service, like any other personal/character trait/flaw is.

of course, if this was draft time, i sincerly doubt gays would be marching for the right to be treated like everybody else.

The Pentagon study answered gino's question. It's only a problem for the troglodytes.

I'll go with our family's newly minted marine's opinion. All he cares about is that as many people as possible shoot in the same direction, if he gets deployed.

It's a new generation. Thankfully the recidivist macho horndogs, masquerading as tough guys who have never BEEN in the military, are dying.

Just not soon enough is all.

RW: my brother is troglodyte type, 82AB, mr macho, looks like the terminator with his shirt off...

he shares the same opinion as your nephew... and will add... that's also less competition for the army babes.
