It would be almost forgivable if he had been married first and rich later. It's just a complete lack of logical reasoning skills that he went in the other order.

I'm guessing that a big part of the reason for his infidelity is that his wealth--and the deference many give to men with wealth--had him convinced that it could never come crashing down around him. So oddly, it makes sense, in a weird sort of way.
