Not that the national Libertarian Party was in danger of being taken seriously any time soon (or, you know, ever) but I gotta say I'm feeling pretty good about not voting for Bob Barr right about now.

Non-aggression isn't a plank in the Libertarian platform. It's a core principle. Duvalier's record as dictator of Haiti is unforgivable, and Barr's association with him is, too.

He's a lawyer representing a client. That doesn't mean he was or now is Baby Doc's best friend.

i wont defend bob barr, but lawyer do what they do.

i'm with dave.
and getting the money delivered to the people of haiti i'd say was a good thing. if it means doing legal work under hire of baby doc, does that make it bad?

or...
barr got asigned to this case because nobody else in the firm wanted it, and he's dick anyway, so they make him do it.

Sorry, but I call bullshit on him just representing a client:

Barr, who represented Georgia's 7th District from 1995 to 2003, and was the Libertarian Party's 2008 presidential nominee, said Saturday that the allegations against Duvalier are just that.

"I deal with allegations all the time," he said. "They are the cheapest commodity on the market."

If Barr is just representing Duvalier on the matter of the money, there is no reason for him to comment on the human rights allegations, particularly in such strong terms.

Seriously, though...my beef here isn't with Barr, who I could give a rat's ass about...it's with a national LP whose last two standard bearers have been a 9/11 truther and (now) a guy working for one of the nastier still-living dictators of the last half-century.

I realize my last comment might make it sound like the LP should have taken and event two years into the future into account when nominating him...which is of course ridiculous. But even at the time Barr's track record was really not libertarian, Creative Loafing column and MPP work notwithstanding. This just drives the point home.

the issue is that barr is trying to get a govt to release money that is not theirs.

sounds like a L principle to me.

The money in question is credibly believed to have been stolen from the Haitian national treasury in the first place. And if you honestly don't think Baby Doc is working an angle here towards regaining power (or at least influence) in Haiti, I have a waterfront condo in Port-au-Prince to sell you.

Brian ... is this the condo you speak of?
