battle of the bands--80's thrash metal

Earlier rounds at Gino's here and here.

First, the one everyone expects:

Metallica

Then, in the spirit of the Ron Paul Revolution, the underdog with a smaller, but much more passionate fan base:

Slayer

you call this a battle?
more like a beat down.
matallica wins.
so much more musical.
but, i always liked metallica, and never quite understood the appeal (to so many) of slayer.

nice matching of genres, btw. perfect.

Thank you...

It's funny you mention musicality...I actually paired these songs up because I think Slayer's musicianship is vastly underrated. Dave Lombardo's (the drummer) in particular...you'll notice if you watch a lot of concert footage that you almost never see his face. I think this is mainly because he's too busy playing to ham it up for the cameras. And as kick-ass a drummer as Lars Ulrich is, he's definitely hamming it up...

I also like the fact that Slayer still writes provocative songs that flat-out rock (God Hates Us All, Consfearacy, Eyes of the Insane), while Metallica has long since retired to writing bad lo-fi songs about their midlife crises (basically everything after the black album).

Don't get me wrong...I love Metallica and have ever since I first heard them (they are in regular rotation on the workout iPod) but Slayer has really grown on me over the years.

i think i'll make this a weekly feature at home.
its kinda fun,no?
and the readers seem to think so,too.

and one thing i like about talking music, nobody is really ever totally wrong. pure 'ear of the beholder'.

Unfortunately for Metallica, the Black Album was the one that made them realize that they could get un-diseased pussy by singing songs about being pussies. I blame them for the current emo trends in music. Now if I could just find that pic of Ben Folds blowing off the whole Metallica tour bus I could prove it.
