I am home this morning watching our vacation fund disappear into a new air conditioning unit. When we bought the place, I figured we'd get a couple more years out of it. As it turns out, we got 22 months. Damn, I hate being right some times.
I hope you'll pardon my French here, but this whole home ownership thing sucks big, sweaty, hairy donkey balls.

I've heard that home ownership isn't all that it is cracked up to be for guys. "If you aren't paying rent, you are paying for maintenance and repairs" has been my inspiration living in a city where home ownership is way too expensive.
Though a working air conditioner for the next 10 years might be better for your happiness than a vacation this year.
Yes, but I'm only going to be living here for one...
you're moving,again?
Well, eventually, and probably in about a year. This job and place were never going to be permanent.
More than likely, we will move two more times in the next 5-8 years or so.
then why did you buy a house?
i kinda had the impression you were in there for the long haul seeing how much you loved the area.
Despite my bitching here, our monthly payments are actually quite a bit lower than renting something comparable would be. And the market here was stronger than average (still is, though the "average" is worse than it used to be), we figured we'd be here 3-5 years, and we could afford it.
I don't regret having bought so much as find myself very reluctant to do it again anytime soon.
